Welcome to my little place on the net. Everyone calls me Tam. I live in Volusia County, Florida with my partner Laine, our son Cody and the dogs who seem to rule our lives.
Its not so easy to describe me, since I seem to contradict a lot. I Figure a nerdy jock is pretty accurate. I am a tomboy type who certainly looks the part but is all girl inside. Click on the links around the site to see what my varied interests are.
I am originally from Warren County, Pennsylvania. Well, sorta. The real deal goes like this. I was born in Columbus, Mississippi. My dad was stationed at Columbus AFB. He got out of the Air Force a few months later and we headed back to Warren. So... it's technically Warren growing up. Hmmm, not so technically. My home's address growing up is indeed Warren. But I went to Lander Elementary and consider Lander my hometown... er... village. (yea, it's that small) Warren is a good 10-20 minutes away (Southeast). Lander village limits are so many hundred feet away. Now, to explain just how small town and goofy it all is, we actually have a Russell phone number. Russell is about 10-15 minutes (East).
I went to Lander Elementary and then Eisenhower High School and Warren County Votech. Had a good time growing up playing baseball 4th and 5th and 6-12th on the Lander Ladies softball team. Probably my fondest memories revolve around those softball games and life with my friends.
I left
for the Air Force at the end of summer after graduation. I was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Tx. from Sep 88 - Jun 89 for Basic Training
and Cop School but I had tendinitis in my leg for so many months and they let me
transfer to the Rec. Specialist field to get out of Tech school. I was then sent
to Lowry AFB, Denver, Co. from Jun 89 - Sep 91 and worked at the Rec Center for
and with one of the greatest group of folks. Mike was stationed in Japan and we
got married during this time from the now infamous denial years. I was
stationed next at Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY from Sep 91 - Sep 95 at the base gym.
The job was great and not so great. I was loving being a part of the
sports programming and running the girls rec softball league but I will never
miss cleaning the gym all the time. :) I made a lot of
great friends from the gym, softball and AF folks I worked with. Cody was
born at Griffiss AFB Hospital Jul7, 25, 1992. Mike and I split in Dec 94.
I decided to separate from Active Duty so I wouldn't have to take a remote tour
away from Cody. I ended up meeting LGBT folks online just before
separating and realizing the gay thing. <insert
I moved back home with Cody to my folks house and we were there from Sept 95 - May 98. I switched from active duty to AF Reserves stationed at Youngstown ARS, Youngstown, Ohio. 1997 was a big year for me. I met my soulmate (Laine) and survived a nasty car accident in the same 2 months. On May 1, 1997 while heading to work I decided to take my Saturn SL1 and play chicken with a few deer. (pics of the car are on photo page under 97' crash) The bad part was, I couldn't hit deer intentionally and avoided them and veering off to the side of the road ended up fishtailing in the dirt and hitting a rock that shot me up and upside down into a tree. Two things, I should have hit the deer (I wouldn't though), and the deer won the chicken game. I was very lucky that day and every day since is just extra days to my life that I cherish. I had so many broken bones, a paralyzed right arm and two punctured lungs which caused me to stop breathing 3 times in the week following the accident. The next year was a road to recovery. My parents and Laine did everything for me till I could get out of my back brace and I am forever grateful.
Laine and I spent that year growing closer and in May 98 Cody and I moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE with her. She was living in Nelsonia, Va. till then. We lived there for 4 years and recommend visiting the beaches and boardwalk there to anyone. Great place to raise children. It's an LGBT friendly town with many businesses owned by LGBT. Camp Rehoboth can point the way.

I have been trying to figure out how anyone in America could have any issue against same sex marriage. I can see if it's against a persons beliefs and/or religion for them to not accept themselves or anyone for that matter but what does that have to do with me? How does your own personal belief in marriage being a man and a woman give you the right to make me a second class citizen in my own "FREE" country?? I just can not get it. It hurts you in absolutely NO way for me to have that legal document saying my partner is my legal wife. It does not come into your home and affect your relationship. If I got married today legally, you still have your home, food on your table, you can still visit your spouse in the hospital. Must be nice... We have paid our taxes, <even though we wont get the same rewards from it that you do>, are raising our son to be a law abiding, loves his country young man, I have paid my dues in the military in active duty and reserves. Why am I not afforded the same things straight couples take for granted. You can wait till the day that you meet your maker whomever that may be for you and say you didn't condone it... but I believe its my right to have the same equality you do. Let me take my chances with what I believe regarding whats after this life. If I or Laine were in a terrible accident one day, we quite possibly would be shut out of the hospital room. How can anyone justify this? |
